Creating a True Village for Connection and Community Wellbeing

In Oakleigh South, where an industrial legacy once defined the community, Sterling Global has authored an entirely new chapter of suburban possibility. Envisioned as a considered development designed upon the landscape, Talbot Village is an ambitious exercise in community-centered restoration, re-use, and living.

A former quarry and landfill site, the $1 billion master plan follows Melbourne’s 20-minute neighbourhood principles – a philosophy that prioritises connection and convenience, walkability, and engagement with community. Every design decision arises from the key question – how can clever design enhance daily life? At Talbot Village, the answer will unfold across five carefully planned stages.

At the heart of Talbot Village, the town square will establish authentic civic life through a range of services and commercial offerings, amenities and infrastructure. Here, these elements will become a core part of the design rather than an afterthought. Importantly, fifteen percent of the master plan will be dedicated to the public realm, creating expansive parklands near water-sensitive wetlands that turn a functional necessity into a landscape feature. Ecological resilience will become an ecosystem that anchors the village’s environmental heart while providing a gathering place for residents, neighbours, and visitors to connect.

While Talbot Village won’t replace Oakleigh South’s existing character, it will enhance it – creating connections to surrounding areas, including Clayton, Huntingdale, and Clarinda, through tree-lined streets and shared pathways. This suburban evolution is set to masterfully display how former industrial locations can be turned into neighbourhoods in their own right through careful planning and design.
