Sterling Global has welcomed the Victorian Government’s approval of planning scheme changes establishing the framework for the delivery of Talbot Village, a new residential neighbourhood at Oakleigh South.
Recently announced by the Minister for Planning, the Hon Sonya Kilkenny, the announcement welcomes the regeneration of the former Talbot Quarry site on Centre Road into a walkable community of up to 1,100 homes, including affordable housing and community infrastructure.
Talbot Village has been designed around the principles of a 20-minute neighbourhood, where residents can meet most of their daily needs within a short walk or ride of home. Expansive parkland, wetland reserves and new pedestrian and cycling links connect the village to surrounding schools and services.
The masterplan also includes a village square with retail, office, medical and childcare uses, cafes and restaurants, a supermarket, a makerspace and tool library, and flexible community space making Talbot Village a thriving pocket of activity and community in Oakleigh South.
The approval follows years of land rehabilitation by Sterling Global, as they continue transforming the 19-hectare site for residents.
Sterling Global founder and CEO Neil Li said the approval marked a significant milestone for the project.
“This announcement is an important milestone in the Talbot Village journey, and we’re pleased to be able to start bringing our vision to reality,” Mr Li said.
“We thank the Minister for Planning, Sonya Kilkenny, for approving the amendment. It paves the way for 1,100 new homes in Oakleigh South in a thoughtfully designed precinct to not only offer housing, but to build a community within, at a time when Melbourne’s south-east needs them.”
Continuing, Mr Li says, “We’re proud to be part of the Oakleigh South community, and we’re ready to begin the next chapter in the Talbot Village story.”
Sterling Global will now progress detailed planning for the multi-stage delivery of Talbot Village.
