383 La Trobe Street

Melbourne

Located in Melbourne’s legal quarter, 383 La Trobe Street represented an ambitious vision for mixed-used urban living. We led a rigorous international design competition, inviting select architects from global cities including Paris, London, New York and Hong Kong to reimagine the site’s potential.

The competition culminated in a partnership with Atelier Jean Nouvel, with the Pritzker Prize-winning architect’s 70-storey tower design taking the award. Nouvel’s vision proposed 500 luxury apartments and 200 upscale hotel rooms, integrated through an intricate network of public spaces. This would have dedicated nearly a third of the ground plane to public life.

Architecture Atelier Jean Nouvel
Developed by Sterling Global
Completed Unrealised (sold in 2018)

The approved design featured innovative community spaces – a video art arcade with changing installations, laneways for extending the area’s industrial character, and adaptable galleries.

We successfully obtained Victorian State Government approval for this sophisticated expression of Melbourne’s urban potential. While the site was ultimately sold in 2018, the project exemplifies our commitment to design excellence and pushing architectural boundaries through collaboration both at home and abroad.
